Parents want to know, what is the best age to schedule my newborn photography session? The simple answer is, between 5-10 days old.
Here’s why you should schedule your newborn photos within the first two weeks of life:
Babies sleep longer and more deeply in the first ten days of life.
We’ll be holding your baby, working him gently into snuggly-sweet poses, and wrapping him in silky soft fabrics during his newborn photo session. Younger newborns fall into a deep sleep (and stay that way) much longer than babies even just three weeks old. Your newborn will willingly oblige being being photographed at this age.
Tiny little legs tucked under tushies and hands gently cupping their squishy newborn faces only happen in the first couple weeks of life. Newborns between 5 and 10 days old curl up happily into womb-like poses, fitting into baskets and mama’s arms beautifully. Older babies are more reluctant to remain in these poses, preferring to stretch out their arms and legs.
Naked, no problem!
When the room is warm, baby won’t bat an eyelash when we gently remove his clothing for those breathtaking skin-on-skin newborn photographs with you, dad, and the siblings.
During the early days, baby’s skin is picture-perfect, smooth, lovely, and ultra-kissable. After 14 days many newborns develop baby acne, which isn’t a problem, but will add redness and require additional retouching to your sweet baby’s newborn photos.
Many times it takes a few days for mother’s milk to fully come in. Babies younger than five days are typically still adjusting to the increasing milk supply, making feedings more erratic and oftentimes more frequent. As the milk supply volume increases, babies eat more at each feeding, are more satisfied, and go longer between feedings, meaning more time for baby to be photographed between nursing sessions.
